European commission has paid to Montenegro the first installment amounting to €28 million in grants. This significant budgetary assistance is intended to mitigate economic consequences of the coronavirus epidemic and support public authorities in leading their response to social and economic challenges.

“This budgetary support is part of €53 million worth grant provided by the EU for the Montenegro’s procurement of medical equipment and for providing help to vulnerable individuals, entrepreneurs, companies, healthcare sector and other affected sectors”, the statement said.

The payment of the final installment will depend on the fulfillment of obligations Montenegro has assumed. The Government is expected to use these EU funds to provide support for as many small enterprises as possible and finance social benefits for endangered children, people with disabilities, elderly people, elderly people with disabilities and families in need.

Other requirements stipulate that social benefits should not be reduced and transparency and access to information on budgetary spending should be improved.
