Montenegro is still under constant attack by hackers who are trying to enter certain systems in the country in every possible way. According to the National Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT), there has been a significant increase in the number of attacks on information systems of state bodies and legal entities, especially the portal of the Government of Montenegro.
Last year, CIRT recorded 604 intrusion attempts compared to 2018, when there had been 537 reported hacker attacks.
A large number of malware-related threats were reported to CIRT during 2019, including malicious blackmail programs, i.e. ransomware, through which an attacker encrypts information on a computer and requires money for decrypting it.
“The number of such threats is highly increasing globally, and we are witnessing that this threat is also present in the Montenegrin cyberspace,” CIRT explained.
According to them, there has come to a significant increase in the number of attacks on information systems of state bodies and legal entities.
“The IT infrastructure of state bodies, especially the portal of the Government of Montenegro, has often been the target of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.”
DDoS attacks represent coordinated attempts of several attackers to disrupt normal traffic of a targeted service.
“Cyber crime today is a serious threat to every state,” they explained.
