Montenegro takes a harder line on air pollution caused by coal

Montenegro has dropped the plans to add 254 MW to thermal power plant in Pljevlja and thus became the first WB country to take a hard line on the air pollution caused by coal, said Mr Ljubo Knežević, energy consultant.

Montenegro is now committed to renewable resources.

Montenegro, just like other Balkan countries, is faced with the need for new energy sources.

Mr Knežević said that they had made this choice following set of European regulations on industrial emissions and formal view of international financial institutions regarding projects of this kind.

Montenegro also endeavors to create new solar capacities in order to achieve goals of the renewable energy block.

Mr Knežević said that some very important investments in recovery of two big ecological black points in Pljevlja had been made.
