Based on the new rail law, Montenegro’s going to get an agency for railways that’s going to be an independent body and is going to monitor the work of railway companies, the CdM portal has learned.

The mentioned law is going to be publicly discussed next week, and was prepared by the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs.

According to the information CdM obtained, it’s a precondition for closing Chapter 14 – transport policy.

The European Commission requires the formation of the Agency for Railways, suggesting that it must be an independent body.

The current Railway Administration of Montenegro is part of the Ministry of Transport.

As CdM learns, head of the agency is going to be appointed by the government. In addition, the draft law envisages stricter requirements for getting a licence for transport of passengers and supplies.
