Montenegro has wise foreign policy

Montenegro has wise foreign policy, which resulted in a successful integration process, bearing in mind that it is a leader in the region when it comes to membership in NATO and the European Union (EU), said the Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Eldar Hasanov.

Foreign Minister Srdjan Darmanovic met Hasanov, Azerbaijan’s non-resident Ambassador to Montenegro with headquarters in Belgrade, on Wednesday.

As the ministry stated, Hasanov said that he was convinced that active cooperation at bilateral and multilateral level will be continued in the future.

“The Ambassador said that Montenegro had wise foreign policy, which resulted in an extremely successful integration process, bearing in mind that Montenegro is a leader in the region when it comes to membership in NATO and the EU,” the statement said.

Hasanov invited Darmanovic to visit Baku this year, saying that he is confident that works on all the projects implemented by the Azerbaijani companies in Montenegro are developing as planned and will be completed as scheduled.

“He pointed out the active work of cultural and economic centre of Azerbaijan in Podgorica, which organises numerous events to promote friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” the ministry stated.

Darmanovic commended the cooperation between the two countries which is improving its quality and dynamics on all levels and in many areas.

He emphasised that Montenegro highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s investments, pointing to the Portonovi tourist complex, a project of the Azerbaijani SOCAR company.

“He also expressed that Montenegro was interested in deepening economic cooperation in the sphere of energy. He added that the country was also interested in implementing the TAP–IAP pipeline project and improving cooperation in the sphere of tourism,” The ministry said in its statement.

As said, Darmanovic expects that this year the two countries will sign agreements on the protection against natural and induced disasters, readmission, youth and sports cooperation, cooperation in energy and other fields of mutual interest.

“Montenegrin foreign minister pointed out that Montenegro expected that the process of its NATO accession protocol ratification would be completed and that it would become a member of this alliance soon. He explained that it was one of the main foreign policy priorities,” the ministry said.

The officials said that Montenegro and the Republic of Azerbaijan had friendly relations based on mutual respect and common interests and expressed interest in further intensifying bilateral cooperation.

Darmanovic also met Mohamed Amin Belhaj, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Montenegro with headquarters in Belgrade.

“Belhaj was thanked for reception and said that Morocco’s interest was to improve bilateral cooperation with Montenegro, primarily in the fields of trade, investments, agriculture and maritime transport, which were pointed out as priority areas of cooperation,” the statement said.

Darmanovic congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and expressed interest in intensifying political contacts and overall relations between the two countries.

The ministry added that the officials agreed that it was necessary to work on the preparation of the contractual basis between the two countries in order to speed up cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
