The Ministry of Internal Affairs, MUP, failed to answer to Pobjeda’s question on whether it plans to prohibit a memorial service in honor of Chetnik leader and war criminal, Draža Mihailović. Memorial service, organized by the Serbian Orthodox Church, SPC, is planned to take place in Herceg Novi today.

The SPC announced the event several days ago. It is formally organized by the non-governmental organisation ‘Srpski soko’ and the SPC said a memorial service is to be served ‘in honor of the 72nd anniversary of Draža Mihailović’s death’.

Montenegrin Ministry of Culture described the event as an ‘intolerable act’ from historical and cultural point of view, stating that it’s an obvious provocation.

Vice-president of the Council of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church, Stevo Vučinić, yesterday noted that “anyone trying to revive the Chetnik movement will be in complicity in crime and traitor of his/her own people’.

“Contemporary chetniks work against freedom of their own people and glorify the most horrible period of European civilization, thus committing a serious criminal offence. Any glorification of that period of European civilization offends victims of chetniks’ crimes as well as victims of their war allies, a total of 40,750 killed people,” emphasized Vučinić
