This information was yesterday published by the Australian media, claiming Ćujić is living like a “European playboy” in Bar and Budva, inaccessible to the investigating authorities, according to Dan daily.
Australian media published comprehensive texts on Čujić, stating “one of the most wanted men might have slipped through the fingers of Australian police, who knew where he was but could not arrest him”.
On the other hand, the Daily Mail claims Bogdan Ćujić escaped from Brisbane in 2012, just three hours after the murder of Jack Lee.
It is alleged that he traveled to Thailand before heading to Belgrade, and finally to Montenegro.
The confusion in the bureaucracy let months go by without preparing papers for the arrest, said the Sunday Times’ Perth Now, which posted a photograph of Ćujić in a large company, taken at a nightclub.
It is alleged that members of the Australian police tracked his movements around the world, and that they were in conjunction with the police in Montenegro, who kept him under surveillance.
The Daily Telegraph also wrote that during surveillance, Montenegrin policemen watched the suspect amuse himself with prostitutes and drugs, but the arrest of Čujić was never enforced.
“Montenegrin police asked their Australian counterparts whether they should make the arrest, but their instructions were to stand down and follow him, because the Queensland police and judicial authorities did not yet prepare the necessary paperwork”, according to the article in Perth Now.
The media had also published that Bogdan Ćujić was a member of an organized group of Brisbane bikers called the “Bandidos”, suspected of a number of serious crimes, including drug trafficking and attacks on tourists.
Police have identified Bogdan Ćujić, a member of the Brisbane Centro chapter of the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle club, as a person of interest in the killing of Lee, who was shot once in the head at point-blank range while allegedly trying to buy $17,000 of cocaine in mid-2012 in the parking lot at an Eight Mile Plains shopping center. There was some sort of a conflict, after which one of the men who was behind the wheel of a “BMW” fired his gun, killing Lee.
Then, as published in the Australian press, the police quickly identified the other man, a friend of Ćujić’s from the “Bandidos”, as Marko Kokara. Bogdan Ćujić allegedly escaped to Thailand, from where he managed to get to Serbia a few days later, while Kokara was arrested shortly after the crime.
Ćujić’s brother Bosko was also detained in Australia for contempt of court, because he refused to answer prosecutor’s questions at the hearing. Their father Sinisa told the media in Australia that the family is shocked by the charges and does not believe that they are true.
Montenegrin police told Dan daily they have indeed been following Bogdan Čujić lately, but also confirmed Australia so far did not send documents on the basis of which his arrest could be executed. Another aggravating circumstance is that the two countries do not have an extradition treaty. Ćujić spent most of his time in the last fifteen months in Bar and Budva.
