The €50 banknote dominant counterfeit money

Until August of the current year, there was around  26.308 EUR of counterfeit money in Montenegro. Counterfeit 50 EUR banknotes and a 2 EUR coin are dominant, reports the Central Bank of Montenegro.

A couple of days ago, Council of the Central Bank of Montenegro adopted a set of decisions on the protection of euro from counterfeiting.

The most frequently counterfeit banknotes are of denominations 50, 20 and 100.

“The Council rendered a decision on the amendments to the decision on medals, tokens and similar EUR coins, amendments to the decision on suspicious examples of EUR banknotes and other activities related to the protection of EUR from counterfeiting. The Council also adopted new decision on the banknotes reproduction. It defines more detailed requirements of the reproduction of EUR banknotes as a legal means of payment in Montenegro. By the adoption of such regulations, the national regulatory framework is completely harmonized with the European Union and European Central Bank. This is of huge importance for the negotiation process on Montenegro’s accession to the EU”, reported the representatives of the Central Bank.
