Nanny Lidija Martinovic, that is doing this job for ten years, explains for Pobjeda that criteria of parents for choice of babysitters are various, but the most important ones are experience and recommendations.
She said that a babysitter’s day starts by coming to the house where the child lives, then the breakfast is prepared for the child, then some playtime is organized, drawing, walking, basically doing everything that “a mother would do with a kid”.
„Children are being taken care of in their homes because that is where the child feels safe and that is where it will accept an unknown person the easiest. I usually babysit five days a week, the time that parents spend at work, and monthly salary for babysitting is 350 euros”, said Martinovic. She explained that a very nice bond is created with children and that she usually attaches emotionally to the children she takes care of.
According to her, most people don’t understand very well what babysitting means, and as the word says, it means all the work related to the baby.
„Here unfortunatelly, it’s been downgraded to some other level because most families ask for more than the job itself is supposed to cover. However I didn’t have such experiences because I try to explain at the very beginning what exactly babysitting is, but there are many women that due to money concerns accept housekeeping work as well, and that has to affect their ability to concentrate on the child”, said Martinovic.
