Montenegro’s Interpol does not rule out any motive for six false bomb threats in Podgorica, said the head of the department Dejan Djurovic at a special conference.
Asked whether the possible reason might be the final stage of Montenegro’s accession to NATO, Djurovic said:
“We are investigating all possible motives. We do not rule out any motive… This is not a situation characteristic only for Montenegro, since similar things have happened in the region as well,” he said.
For the time being, it is known that the false bomb alerts were sent from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The calls were made from prepaid numbers which were used only on that occasion.
“Calls were received from the prepaid numbers with no registered owners… Those sim cards were used only for the purposes of this offense, which makes the work of the police more difficult… That does not mean that it is impossible to solve the case,” said Djurovic.
Reporters asked which facilities can be potential “targets” of the bomb threats after the Delta shopping mall, the Capital Plaza business centre, the Beagle night club and the hotels Hemera, Hilton and Ramada, having in mind that, for instance, the national theatre is packed every night, that the Buducnost handball club is playing the Champions League matches in the Moraca sports centre and that the national football team will play at the city stadium soon…
“Every facility can be endangered in terms of false bomb alerts… The larger the facility is and the more people in it, the more vulnerable it is,” said Djurovic.
