The Ministry of Labor, Recruitment and Social Dialogue has started the process of amending the Labor Fund Law, aiming to solve the problem of unpaid pension and disability insurance contributions of employees whose employers ceased to exist. The formation of a working group comprising representatives of the mentioned ministry, as well as representatives of the Labor Fund, the Association of Employers, the Association of Free Trade Unions, is an important step towards enhancing social justice and the country’s responsibility.
“It’s early to talk about the estimations regarding the number of those workers and the amount of available funds for them, having in mind that the work on amendments to the mentioned law hasn’t started yet,” the ministry told Pobjeda daily.
The Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro added that the mentioned ministry had reacted to their initiative, planning to develop a draft law amending the Labor Fund Law.
The initiative requires the expansion of competencies of the Labor Fund so that employees whose employers failed to ensure the pension and disability insurance contributions for them would be able to get them. Ivana Mihajlovic, deputy secretary general and legal advisor in the Union of Free Trade Unions, points out that the proposed amendments would ensure greater justice and sustainability of the fund, calling on the MPs to react as soon as possible and put the initiative on their agenda.
