As of today, used motor vehicles can be imported to Montenegro if compatible with the Euro 4 emission standards, while the brand new vehicles imported to the country will have to comply with the Euro 6 standard.
This is the decision made by the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs, clearly denoted in the amended Rulebook on technical requirements for importing vehicles in the part referring to the vehicle safety/technical standards. The amended Rulebook defines the emission levels and noise limits for new and used vehicles as well.
The amendments were first announced in May this year, and upgraded standards include better technical and safety performance of vehicles making them safer on the roads.
When it comes to the environmental standards for vehicles, Montenegro has an obligation to follow and insert the existing regulation from this area of homologation.
