Palestine was among the first countries that recognised restoration of Montenegro’s independence in 2006, thus supporting the value of the state policy of leading the country towards full membership in the European Union and NATO, said the chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants Andrija Nikolic during a meeting with the Ambassador of Palestine in Montenegro HE Rabi Alhantuli.
The ambassador commended the visible progress that Montenegro has made in meeting its strategic goals – European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He added that Montenegro strengthened multiethnic harmony and internal stability and achieved a serious progress in economy.
The ambassador also presented the situation regarding the Palestinian politician Marwan Barghouti, who leads Palestinian prisoners’ hunger strike.
“Democratic dialogue is a long term the only way to overcome the problems,” Nikolic said and expressed confidence that a solution will be reached soon, adding that the respect for human rights and freedom were the obligations of each country.
The officials pointed out the importance of strengthening the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries through the establishment of friendship groups, which is an additional incentive for establishing and intensifying parliamentary, economic and overall relations between Montenegro and Palestine.
