Nimanbegu: Neither govt nor opposition backed my amendment

No political entity, neither from the government nor the opposition has ever given any positive signal for backing my amendment to the election law, a deputy parliament speaker and a representative of the coalition ‘the Albanians decisively’, Mr Genci Nimanbegu, told Pobjeda daily. The amendment, according to him, required four guaranteed seats for the Albanians.

“My request is based on the fact that the leaders of the Albanian political parties submitted the then parliament speaker such a request back in 2015. During the meetings with the leaders of the Albanian parties in 2019, we jointly concluded that guaranteeing seats would be the best way of our representation in the Parliament of Montenegro,” he noted.

Mr Nimanbegu didn’t sign any proposal stemming from a range of election laws that were at the govt’s plenum in the end of 2019 even though he was the member of the Committee on the Comprehensive Reform of Electoral and Other Legislation. One of the reasons behind such action was that he hadn’t received support for the amendment he proposed in early Dec.
