No funds for inaccurate financial statements, warns DRI

The Initiative for amending the Law on financing the political entities and election campaigns, that the State Audit Institution (DRI) submitted to the Parliament of Montenegro, suggested the Ministry of Finance should phase out financing of political parties in cases when their annual financial report or the report on financing election campaigns contain grave inaccuracies or other serious breaches of the Law, writes Pobjeda daily.

Pursuant to the existing Article 11 of the Law, the Ministry, i.e. a local self-government body is obliged to abolish any payment to a political party that failed to submit the annual financial report for the previous year (the deadline is by 31 March of the current year).

In line with the existing Law (Article 43), the DRI has been performing the audit over the annual consolidated financial reports of political parties with the total generated revenue exceeding EUR 10,000.
