Nrekić: Ulcinj will shine again

Ljoro Nrekić

First man of the municipality of Ulcinj, Ljoro Nrekić, believes that this town will become the richest municipality in Montenegro regardless of the fact that the situation is very difficult, due to the debt which exceeds 42 million EUR.

According to the forecast of the new local administration, Ulcinj will soon be the richest municipality in Montenegro. The first step was to make a selection of the most skillful and most educated human resources regardless of which party they belong to. The objective is to make the southernmost Montenegrin municipality shine again.

“I believe that Ulcinj has great prerequisites for accelerated development. In the post war period we witnessed the destruction of economy, migrations and stagnation in almost all segments of the society. That’s why we need huge systemic turn, radical reforms and changes in the functioning of local administration”, said Nrekić.

He also pointed out that grey economy in the area of tourism must be stopped.

“Failing to register accommodation facilities and local tax evasion are just some of the ways to generate profit at the expense of the Municipality and tourist workers who do their job according to the regulations. We’ve decided to employ several persons who would supervise facilities. That would give us clearer picture of the situation and it would produce positive economic effects”, said Nrekić.

Local administration in Ulcinj plans to extend the season and it endeavors to bring the income generated in tourism to the level of the annual budget. Ulcinj has been in the shadow when it comes to investments in infrastructure. But that’s about to change all with the aim of improving life standard, quality of tourism offer as well as increasing employment.
