“The unprovoked and unjust war of Russian President Vladimir Putin against Ukraine has brought terrible violence and caused enormous death and destruction. As you watch news from Ukraine and witness the horrors of war through images of cities such as Bucha, Irpin, Hostomel and Mariupol, many of you surely remember the horrors of the violence that engulfed the region in the 1990s. Today, when we mark a gloomy turning point – 100 days of war – I call on all peaceful citizens of Montenegro to show solidarity with Ukraine and condemn Russia for ruthless brutality towards the Ukrainian people”, Reinke says.
“That violence has taken the form of attacks that result in the wounding and killing of civilians and the destruction of civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, a children’s theater and a busy train station, resulting in national, collective trauma for Ukrainians. There are also credible reports of brutal personal violence: individuals killed in a manner reminiscent of executions, bodies showing signs of torture, and sexual violence against women and children”, she points out.
“Our simple message to the Russian military and political leadership, as well as to its officers and soldiers who commit war or other crimes, is the following: ‘The world is watching you, you will be held accountable’. We will continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons and equipment it needs to defend itself, and we will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by the Kremlin’s brutal, senseless war”, Reinke concludes.
