The Police Directorate of Montenegro has intensified oversight of vehicle inspection stations to improve road safety. In the past year, 43 inspections were carried out, revealing irregularities in 33 cases. As a result, authorities issued 136 fines totalling over €108,000, primarily due to the certification of vehicles that were not technically roadworthy.
Of the fines, legal entities were penalised with €71,800, and 16 stations had their licenses revoked. Individual controllers received 70 penalties amounting to nearly €22,000 for failing to adhere to professional standards. Additionally, 147 new licenses were issued to inspectors, while two were revoked.
Currently, 118 technical inspection stations are legally operating in Montenegro, with 41 new approvals granted in 2024. The government collected nearly €35,000 in administrative fees from these licenses. Authorities stress that inspections will continue, emphasising that vehicle roadworthiness is critical to public safety and that accountability at all levels is essential.
