With daily criticism of the programme, which they say does not exist, the opposition is trying to impose the impression that the Europe Now 1 and 2 programmes have no effect on the standard of living, due to the fact that price increases canceled out the increase in wages, says the Secretary General, Boris Pejovic.
As he adds, based on the views of the opposition so far, instead of the coronavirus pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine, the conclusion is that the Europe Now programmes have caused global inflation and drastic price increases in numerous countries of the European Union and the region, which are often even higher in relation to price growth in Montenegro.
“So, according to the logic of the opposition, if wages in Montenegro had not increased, there would have been no global inflation or price hikes throughout the European Union and the region,” says Pejovic.
Furthermore, according to this reason, he adds, the situation in Montenegro, but also in the world, would be much better if the minimum wage in Montenegro remained at €222 and the average at slightly more than €500, and the social gap continued to deepen.
The pace of increasing wages and pensions by a couple of euros per year would be the most effective measure of accelerated development and improvement of living standards, according to the opposition, he has pointed out.
