Thanks to an agreement between the Municipality of Podgorica and the Refugees Commissariat she and her children have been accommodated in the so-called Bosnian settlement. The six of them live in one room and share a bathroom with a neighbor.
Until two months ago, Mira was a beneficiary of social welfare and child allowance in the amount of €178.
“She is a user of the Soup Kitchen, so has one granted meal for the children and herself. When she moved into the apartment, there was a huge electricity debt. She made an agreement with the Electric Distribution Company to pay the debt off in installments. She immediately paid €160 and the last bill. After it, she paid €20 a month,” the Food Bank representatives said.
However, as they pointed out, two months ago when she came into the Post to take her social welfare, she learned that she received only €57.
“Surprised by the information, she went to the Social Welfare Centre. They said that her social welfare was cancelled because lack of court decision on custody and alimony. The litigation against her former husband on this matter has been ongoing“, the Foundation explained.
Four years ago, Mira launched the litigation.
“The Social Welfare Centre has invited her ex-husband three or four times to a conversation and he did not show up. There were no court hearings until a month ago. Her former husband did not appear. The next hearing was scheduled for November 24th. And social welfare that Mira used to receive has been abolished,” the Food Bank added.
The foundation asked the Social Welfare Centre and the relevant Ministry what Mira can do to restore the right to €121 material assistance for her family.
She has not paid electricity bill, so they have been disconnected from the grid.
The Food Bank called on all people of good will to help this family.
“The biggest help to them would be a wood stove and firewood, as well as footwear for girls (sizes: 33, 31, 29, 26 and 23). Pajamas, underwear, slippers, winter jackets, sweaters – they need all that”, the Food Bank communicated.
