Prime Minister of Montenegro Milo Đukanović took part at a meeting of countries’ presidents of NATO, dedicated to stability outside of the Alliance’s borders, future role of NATO in Afghanistan and relations with Ukraine.
Recognizing the importance of stability outside its borders, in order to ensure stability within the Alliance, Đukanović supported passed measure for the east and the south.
In this context, keeping in mind Mediterranean’s importance for stability, and Montenegro’s contribution to it, presidents of countries confirmed that operation Active Support would become operation Sea Watch, that is not a part of Article 5, and they considered NATO’s possible role in central Mediterranean that would be complementary to EU’s mission Sophia.
Đukanović repeated that Montenegro is ready to help the Alliance in accordance with its capacities.
Afghanistan session was attended by its President, and it was confirmed that NATO would continue to support their Government, continuing the mission Determined Support in 2017. They would also continue to finance Afghan forces until 2020.
Commission NATO – Ukraine was held, and Ukraine’s President was in attendance as well. It was confirmed that Ukraine would remain independent, sovereign and stable, dedicated to democracy and rule of law.
