Pljevlja cheese has been included in the prestigious list of the 100 best cheese types in the world. It’s in the 27th place. TasteAtlas, the world food atlas, has published the list of the 100 best cheese types. Pljevlja cheese ranks high on the list and is ahead of the famous Italian Mozzarella and Swiss Grier.
“Montenegrin traditional cheese is produced from cow’s milk, according to a well-known recipe. Its unique aromas are the result of the process that takes place in wooden barrels. The cheese should rest for 15 days before it is ready for consumption. How popular this food is, is also shown by the fact that every year the event Pljevlja Cheese Days is held”, TasteAtlas post says, among other things.
Last year, TasteAtlas published a list of the 50 best sheep milk cheese types in the world.
Njegusi cheese, a Montenegrin specialty, was at the very top, in the 2nd place.
