During his meeting with the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Mrs. Federica Mogherini, Prime Minister Duško Marković said he believes criticism to be an incentive, and that “this is the responsibility of our partners in the integration process”.
He thanked Mrs. Mogherini for visiting and supporting the region which, in his view, is moving forward with clear and certain European perspective.
“It is now up to candidate countries to fulfill their obligations and create conditions for final membership in the EU”, PM said and added the govt recognized the shortcomings listed in the European Commission Progress Report on Montenegro.
Mrs. Mogherini praised news of the demarcation of the border between Montenegro and Kosovo, noting that the EU’s door to the Western Balkans is open, with negotiations going well.
“We have seen the truly encouraging progress of Montenegro, which has been highlighted and explained in detail in the Report”, Mrs. Mogherini said, stressing that progress is expected in other areas where certain weaknesses have been observed.
She also emphasized the importance of political debate, with all political entities returned to democratic institutions.
“We believe that the resolution of the current boycott of the Assembly can and should be reached”, Mrs. Mogherini said.
She particularly emphasized Montenegro’s crucial role in the foreign security policy, concluding that it deserved recognition, because it has followed the EU’s security policy on a straight-line basis.
The EU High Representative arrived in Montenegro today and, after she met with Foreign Minister Srdjan Darmanovic in Tivat, she proceeded to meet with the newly elected President Milo Djukanovic.
