Over the past 7 days, more than 400 children received the MMR vaccine in the Podgorica’s health care centre. This was stated by this institution’s director, Nebojsa Kavaric.
The number of unvaccinated children is monitored on a daily basis.
Kavaric thanked parents for the turnout and called on those who did not vaccinate their children to do that.
“I call on them to visit paediatrician and get information on MMR,” he said.
Commenting o the campaign he initiated last week, Kavaric said it has already produced results.
“Most of the public figures responded to the campaign, including reis of the Islam Community Rifat Fejzic who called on parents to vaccinate their children. Some of them will post the message on social media. On the other hand, we as the institution will make efforts to find a common way to promote immunisation,” Kavaric said.
According to the Health Care Centre Podgorica, 29 parents refused their children’s vaccination in August. Proceedings against parents will be conducted according to the law.
The Law on the Protection of Population from Infectious Diseases stipulates fines for the refusal of immunoprophylaxis and hemoprophylaxis against certain infectious diseases from €100 to €2,000. The fine is determined by the courts.
As a reminder, Kavaric said that parents who refuse vaccination are always advised to talk to a paediatrician who is obliged to respond to their dilemmas and inform them on the issue.
Only after several attempts by doctors to persuade parents to vaccinate their children, punishing procedures are launched.
Kavaric said that authorities shouldn’t stop at misdemeanour procedures and €500 fines. The fine shouldn’t be an alibi not to vaccinate a child. He said that court procedures should be initiated against those refusing the vaccination again. In that case they could get prison sentence for committing offences of preventing the provision of health care, endangering life and disabling conscientious treatment.
