The City of Podgorica provided €35,000 for further tourist valorisation of the Duklja archaeological site through an IPA CBC project. Investments are to start as of 1 September this year, it was said during the visit of the mayor of Podgorica Slavoljub Stijepovic and his associates to the locality where archaeological research is being implemented. The Doclea – Archaeology Field School is being organised within the research, in cooperation with the Bulgaria-based Balkan Heritage Foundation.
Stijepovic expressed satisfaction that Podgorica hosted an international group of researchers from Australia, Europe and the USA in the past month. As he said, he hopes they will be able to convey impressions from Duklja, Podgorica and Montenegro.
“Apart from being a cultural and historical wealth, we want this to become a part of tourist offer, to valorise Duklja as a travelling destination much more than before. This is intensively done, particularly having in mind the growing trend in tourists visiting Podgorica,” the mayor said, assuring that the partnership with this foundation would continue with other international schools dealing with archaeological research.
