Water bills in Podgorica will go up by 15 cent per cubic meter from 1 January 2025, the water regulator has determined. The capital’s assembly hasn’t confirmed the new price list yet, Dan daily says.
New prices were proposed after the legal team of ‘Vodovod’ and the Association of Municipalities of Montenegro referred to the Law on Communal Activities that did not recognize “shortening of the assembly’s mandate”.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajic did not approve the announcements on the rise of water bills, stating in early November that he “won’t allow water bills to rise, and wherever PES members are in the managerial structure, the proposal of ‘Vodovod’ won’t be backed.”
However, Vodovod’s website has already published new water prices, applicable from 1 January 2025.
Based on the Law on Communal Activities, the price of water in Montenegro has been determined by the Energy and Water Regulatory Agency. They have been doing so since 2020, based on the adopted methodology. Earlier, that is, before the mentioned law was adopted, local self-governments had determined the price of water.
