Poland strongly supports Montenegro’s European integration, Chargé d’affaires of the Polish Embassy to Montenegro Malgorzata Lakota-Micker has said, adding that the European Union (EU) recognized the need for accession of new members and showed that effort and commitment are appreciated.
In an interview with Eurokaz, Lakota-Micker notes Poland backs EU enlargement to the WB countries.
“I have always advocated for that under one condition – the countries aspiring to EU membership must clearly show their willingness as well as individual progress.”
Among the countries of the region, she notes, Montenegro has made the biggest progress regarding Euro-Atlantic integrations.
“Montenegro sent a clear signal with its participation in current negotiations, the number of top-level meetings and talks in Brussels, as well as the consultations in Podgorica, that it doesn’t see itself outside a union of states and peoples such as the EU is.”
She’s continued: “A positive report on the fulfilment of the interim benchmarks (IBAR) has become a synonym for Montenegro’s European perspective”.
The EU, as she adds, has demonstrated that it appreciates efforts and commitment.
“Today, we can’t even imagine that Montenegro won’t be part of the EU in the coming years. We believe that it’s going to use the opportunity. All the more so because the EU changed the approach, opened to dialogue and recognized the need for the accession of new members.”
