Siemoniak has been paying an official visit to Montenegro at the invitation of the Minister of Defence, Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic. After the meeting the two ministers, it was announced that the official Warsaw and Podgorica expected that Montenegro would get NATO invitation at the NATO summit in Warsaw, in July next year, according to the news agency Anadolija.
“Poland supports Montenegro’s joining NATO and will contribute to taking such a decision at a meeting of ministers in December and to sending the invitation at the next year’s summit in Warsaw. We are ready to become an ‘attorney’ for Montenegro’s accession to NATO. There are a couple of months of hard work in front of us before the meeting of foreign ministers,” Mr Siemoniak said.
Montenegrin Minister of Defence, Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic thanked her counterpart Siemoniak for his visit. She pointed out that the visit of the Polish Defence Minister to Montenegro represented a support for the reform process conducted by the Ministry of Defence of Montenegro and the Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro.
“In early July next year the next NATO summit in Warsaw will be held and expectations of Montenegro in the preparing for the summit in the coming months are great. There is no doubt that these expectations are defined in a way that Montenegro has met all the conditions and criteria necessary for obtaining invitation for full membership in NATO,” Ms Pejanovic-Djurisic said.
She said she was satisfied to see Poland among the NATO member states that unreservedly support the Euro-Atlantic path of Montenegro, and that will help in the final months of the year in preparation for the meeting of foreign ministers of NATO member states in December in order for a sufficient degree of support to be achieved to allow achieving the strategic goal not only of the Government of Montenegro, but also of the state of Montenegro.
