Police officers suspected of beating up young men in Podgorica released pending trial

Members of the Police Interventional Unit, Mladen Vujovic, Marko Stojanovic, Vukoman Maras, Slavko Furtula and Milos Becanovic, who are suspected of beating up three young men and falsifying official documents, have been released pending trial after the investigative judge questioned them, CdM learns.

As their lawyer Maja Zekovic told CdM, the judge concluded that there was no basis for their further detention because the witnesses were heard and evidence in this case was collected.

In front of the building of the Basic Court in Podgorica a number of police officers and family members gathered in order to support the suspected policemen.

The policemen earlier told prosecutor that they believed the young men had weapons. They pointed out that the video of the incident that became viral in Montenegro did not show the whole event.

On this occasion, the head of Police Directorate Slavko Stojanovic ordered the dismissal of the chief of the Intervention Unit Milan Radusinovic.
