Popa: EU Delegation closely monitors all events concerning Sinjajevina mountain

The EU Delegation is closely following all events related to Sinjajevina and hopes for a quick dialogue that will lead to the solution and an end of reasons for citizens’ protest in the mountain, under the open sky, said the Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, Ms Oana Cristina Popa, during the meeting with representatives of the Civic Initiative ‘Save Sinjajevina’ held on Friday.

According to the Civic Initiative ‘Save Sinjajevina’, the topic of the meeting was a protest gathering of the citizens at Sinjajevina mountain, that the Army of Montenegro plans to use as an international military polygon. The meeting was organized on the invitation of the Delegation following the letter sent by the Civic Initiative.

“It was proposed to start dialogue with the Ministry of Defense again, as well as with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Tourism and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Culture, the Environmental Protection Agency and other competent bodies. Ms Popa pointed out that Chapter 27, dealing with the issue of environmental protection, will be in the spotlight in the coming period. Therefore, the case of militarization of Sinjajevina mountain will continue to be the subject of their interest”, the Civic Initiative ‘Save Sinjajevina’ noted.

They recall that at the last session of Montenegro’s Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee, held in February, members of the European Parliament proposed an amendment requiring to stop all militarization activities in this area, but it wasn’t passed.
