With the commencement of the operational activities of the Montenegro Power Exchange at the end of this year will create essential conditions for better and more competent market in Montenegro, its representatives said.

Technical secretary of the Montenegro Power Exchange, Ms Dragana Radulović, said that trade should begin at the end of year.

“Negotiations with Nord Pool are approaching the finishing phase. All the necessary agreements with the Norwegian company are expected to be signed during the second quarter of this year”, Ms Radulović said.

Cooperation implies support for the establishment of processes and procedures required for functioning of the national market in Montenegro, connecting market with neighboring countries and processes of clearing and financial settlement.

Test phase will come before the operational work.

“There’s considerable interest in the participation on the stock exchange, especially as undersea cable has enabled connection of our market with the European”, Ms Radulović said.

In addition, tradesmen from the region and entire Europe have also expressed their interest.

Ms Radulović believes that undersea cable is not just energy connection between Montenegro and Italy in physical sense, but it is much more than that.

“Italian market is connected to the internal European market. Therefore, Montenegro is actually connected to the European market. That widens supply and demand”, Ms Radulović said.

The stock exchange type of the market will enable transparent overview of the market and provide some new trade options.
