Power failure caused many problems

Power failure caused by the damage of the transmission line cable at the 110 KW transmission line “Podgorica 2-Podgorica 4” that lasted several hours, followed by the breakdown on the substation Mareza, brought many problems for the town at the right bank of the river Morača.

Since 10:30, numerous residential buildings and business facilities were out of electricity. Some facilities were even out of water since they are supplied by water via electric pumps. Traffic lights on some of the busiest crossroads didn’t work, which caused huge traffic jams.

In such situations, great trade chains are supplied with electricity by aggregates. Therefore, there were no problems for the big malls and trade centers.

Legal adviser at the Center for the Consumers Protection, Jasna Božović, says that they didn’t have applications for the damage caused by the yesterday’s black-out. In case there has been material damage, consumers have right to report the damage to the Commission of the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS) which will decide upon the compensation. Božović pointed out that the Law on Consumers Protection does not regulate relations between legal entities in situations like this one. The Law on Contracts shall be applied in such case.

Representative of the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System couldn’t give any more details about the damage inflicted on plants and the cost thereof.
