Presidential candidates received EUR 25.000 each

Certain political candidates didn’t get the approximate number of votes compared to the number of signatures they collected to run for the country’s presidency. Nevertheless, they were paid €25.ooo from the state budget in order to fund their election campaigns.

Even though all presidential candidates submitted signatures of at least 1.5% of registered voters in the presidential election (around 8.100 signatures), some of them weren’t even close to that number.

The presidential candidate, Jovan Radulovic, got 2.574 votes in the election (0.76%), while Goran Danilovic got 4.659 votes. Regardless of this fact, they received €25.000 to fund their election campaigns. And it’s not the first time we’re having this situation.

According to the NGO ‘CEMI’, there’s a need to revise the way of funding the presidential election campaign, proposing that Montenegro should look at the example of the developed European countries.
