The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Pljevlja has opened an investigation into the recent seizure of €40,000 at the Rance border crossing.
The funds were discovered during a routine inspection of two vehicles with five Montenegrin citizens, one of whom was found with over €10,000, prompting further checks.
While speculation suggests the money was intended for the For the Future of Niksic coalition’s election campaign, a claim made by Social Democrat MP Nikola Zirojevic, the coalition has denied it.
The money has been temporarily confiscated, and the Prosecutor’s Office is determining whether any criminal offense has been committed.
