Radulović: Montenegro needs to hear the voice of science

Today more than aver Montenegro needs the voice of science and professionalism, as well as positive international experience in the field of environment, said Minister of Tourism and Sustainable Development, Mr Pavle Radulović, opening the 8th International Symposium of Ecologists of Montenegro.

Minister pointed out that this approach was of paramount importance, especially in the light of increasing and sometimes even unfounded demands aimed at decision makers.

“For that reason, institutionally and personally, I support colleagues biologists in their scientific work and I urge them not to give up on their way of science and knowledge”, said Minister Radulović.

Symposium of ecologists gathers researchers from Europe and the USA, as well as interested counterparts from the region. Hewing to tradition, every year in October they exchange scientific and professional experience in the field of fundamental and applied ecology and environment.

Mr Radulović pointed out the importance of introducing ecological provision in the Constitution of Montenegro, as that’s without doubt the direction towards which the development of the country should move to.

“Declaration on eco-friendly state was just a starting point of Montenegro’s contemporary development, defining environment as one of the fundamental priorities of the sustainable development”, said Mr Radulović.

Minister said that addressing the problems of waste management, rehabilitation of landfills and construction of waste water treatment facilities was crucial.

He put special emphasis on the recovery of four black ecological points, stating that this project had made considerable progress in the past two years.

“A tricky dilemma is: how to find balance between two goals – faster economic development and environment protection? In Montenegro, we are perfectly aware of that challenge”, said Mr Radulović.

Minister highlighted the fact that forest made up 70% of Montenegro’s territory and that requires adequate model for achieving sustainable balance between development goals and protection  of environment.
