“I’ve always been in favor of the Social Democratic Party strengthening its independence by participating in the elections on its own. So far, this attitude left me in the minority within the party. It is my commitment and vision that the SDP should be independent at the parliamentary elections in order to strengthen and position itself as a more quality alternative for leadership, in further creation of Montenegro’s path”, said Rastoder.
Commenting on relations of SDP with the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists, Rastoder said the coalition is not functioning as it did in the past.
“It is obvious that relations between the Social Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Socialists are at a level that is poorer than it should be in a long-time ruling coalition. In my opinion, these disagreements are not at the level which could interfere with Montenegro’s most important international obligations, so the functioning of the coalition is not yet in question. I think everything points to the fact that, exactly because of the upcoming important international tasks, maintaining of a functioning coalition is imperative… Things will remain like this until the end of the year, that is, until decision on the invitation of Montenegro for membership in NATO”, said Vice President of the Social Democrats.
Commenting on the political messages exchanged between the coalition partners, Rastoder said this is nothing new.
“These most recent statements heard in congresses of SDP and DPS represent already familiar positions of both parties”, concluded Rastoder.
