He announced that the party would send an official call to former members, who had been on state positions on behalf of the party so far, to return their mandates and that the party bodies were to make decisions in this direction by the end of July.
“We expect that that former officials would resign and thus make easier in technical terms to constitute the Government on the basis of the coalition agreement and the majority in the Parliament,” Mr Rebronja said adding that he hoped the former members would not call into question the legitimacy and the Euro-Atlantic credibility of the Government.
He reminded that the Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic said none of the positions could be more important than NATO membership, and that he believed no ministers, including Ivan Brajovic and Vujica Lazovic, thought opposite.
According Mr Rebronja, such statements indicated that the DPS and the Prime Minister would fulfil their obligations regarding the coalition agreement and preserve the legitimacy of the Government.
“Mr Lazovic and Mr Brajovic can technically make the job easier by submitting resignations, thus avoiding further erosion of personal credibility, but the model of their dismissal is of particular importance,” said Rebronja.
Commenting on the current situation, Mr Rebronja asked what would happen if a minister from the DPS left the party and formed another one.
“Would it be normal for him/her to continue being member of the current government formed on the basis of the coalition agreement between the DPS and the SDP? I believe the answer is obvious,” he said.
As Mr Rebronja said, the new party, the name of which daily Informer announced on June 26th, was worth to the real founders as much as it could harm the SDP and would be supported as long as it could implement that.
“As you see, criticism of the party they used to belong to represents their only policy. The SDP has been exposed to media chicane by two newspapers and two televisions led by the tabloid Infomer, for more than a year,” Rebronja reminded.
As he said, the coup attempt within the SDP was just a part of a coordinated action of undemocratic structures that opposed the EU and NATO integration.
Mr Rebronja added that the campaign against the SDP continued after the failure at the party congress through false information on mass leaving the party by its members. He said that enormous media attention showed the importance of the DPS.
He also claimed that former members had not left the SDP due to the party’s policy, but because of “unrealized ambitions and the preservation of ministerial and executive positions”.
He concluded that the SDP, “without those not willing to respect the party’s programme and the decisions of the Congress” would continue to protect state interests and the EU and NATO integration.
