A total of 5.021 people got vaccinated against the coronavirus in Montenegro by Sunday, which is around 5% of 110.000 people who belong to the top five priority groups. The first group includes people aged over 80 years, the elderly and staff in care homes, health workers on the Covid front line and people aged 70-74 years, the second includes people aged 75-79 years and the third people aged 65-69 years, reports Pobjeda daily.
Covid-19 vaccination started on 20 February, and the first person who got the jab was a man from the care home in Risan. Until that date, Montenegro received 44.000 doses of the Covid vaccine (30.000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine and 14.000 doses of Sputnik V).
Asked by Pobjeda why the pace of vaccination had been slow, State Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Borko Bajić, said that “they couldn’t be faster having in mind the available supplies and the rule to stick to the priority groups and epidemiological measures”.
He further explained that 7.000 people would get a Sputnik jab, as they would have to receive it twice.
According to him, they endorsed the use of 30.000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine yesterday, and 15.000 of people would be vaccinated. Mr Bajić expected that the pace of vaccination would be faster as of Wednesday.
