The proposal for the Census Law will be discussed by MPs today. While the opposition claims that the text is not aligned with the Constitution and laws, the ruling majority expects it to be adopted because, as they say, it’s about a usual practice which is not important for the creation of policies.
The Democratic Front MP, Simonida Kordic, says that it’s impossible to assess the state of play in the country without data from the census. “Without the census data it’s practically impossible to assess the current state of play in the country, provide data on the economic conditions, social needs, cultural needs and all those aspects of society that the state usually deals with.”
The Democratic Montenegro MP, Vladimir Martinovic, says that he expects this law to ensure that every citizen declares about their feelings without any pressure.
The Social Democratic Party MP, Draginja Vuksanovic Stankovic, notes that her party already said this law had to be adopted because it’s a constitutional obligation, but it mustn’t be violated. “There’s a clear intention of the parliamentary majority to undermine Montenegro and its constitutional order upon the order of the official Belgrade.”
The Democratic Party of Socialists believes that a part of MPs uses the census as a political tool to destroy the civic Montenegro.
