Commenting on yesterday’s incident in the Parliament when the Administrative Committee recommend lifting MP Nebojsa Medojevic’s immunity, the director of the Civic Alliance (GA) Boris Raonic said it was a sad day for Montenegro’s parliamentarism and democracy, Dnevne Novine newspaper writes.
“This direction of a sharp division into two sides is certainly not a good one. On the one hand, we have the militaristic rhetoric, calls for crackdown and threats as if a civil war has begun in Montenegro today. If we know that we have serious social and economic crisis and that the political crisis is continuously lasting for a year and a half, then all who have followed developments in the region are able to predict possible result. I warn citizens and leaders of political parties that the direction we are taking is not a good one, because we have a lot of problems to be solved, and we cannot solve them. We are heading into radicalisation that should concern us. I understand both sides – one believes it is defending the country, the other believes it is fighting against the authoritarian regime. But it is not the way to solve the problems,” Raonic told DN.
He points out that he is not an optimist when it comes to the further development of the situation and that the government and the opposition must urgently open a dialogue.
“A mediator in the dialogue must urgently be found. That must be someone whom both sides trust,” says Raonic.
Vice president of the URA Civic Movement Nedjeljko Rudovic told DN says that yesterday’s incidents demonstrated “the downfall of the political system”.
“This is a reflection of a sick and paralysed political system. The root should be sought in the apparent political violence before, during and after 16 October 2016, resulting in a brazen usurpation of power. This naturally leads to conflict situations, which show the depth of the political and social crisis. DPS representatives must become aware that there is no room for avoiding snap elections,” Rudovic said.
