Sattler: It’s time for making compromises so that MNE doesn’t divert from the road to the EU

Johan Satler

The EU Ambassador to Montenegro, Johann Sattler, assesses that the time has come in Montenegro for political leaders to make compromises so that the country doesn’t divert from the road to the EU.

“I encourage the ruling majority to open a dialogue with political actors about the Assembly’s decision regarding the retirement of the judge of the Constitutional Court. But I also encourage the opposition to consider the Government’s offer to discuss a common public platform whose goal is to put national interests above party interests, and ensure inter-party support for all reforms and decisions necessary for the completion of EU accession negotiations,” Ambassador Sattler told Pobjeda daily.

He added that ensuring the full functionality of the Constitutional Court through timely and merit-based selection of the remaining judges, based on transparency and legal requirements, is a fundamental issue of the rule of law and a key condition for Montenegro’s path to the EU.
