The session of the Savnik Municipal Assembly will be held tomorrow, it’s announced on the website of this municipality. Councillors will hold a video meeting via Zoom at 10 a.m.

The Savnik local elections haven’t finished yet – and it’s been two years – because members of the For The Future of Savnik bloc didn’t allow voting to finalize in two polling stations – the building of the municipality and Krusevice village.

Elections in this town have been lasting since October 2022, while the local assembly still comprises councillors from the previous convocation, elected in 2018. Jugoslav Jokic was elected president of this municipality on 18 February 2021 by votes of the Democratic Party of Socialists and Social Democrats, which means his 4-year term of office expires tomorrow.

On the other hand, the mandate of the current Savnik local assembly started in late June 2018 but didn’t terminate after four years, because the local elections in that town haven’t finished although started in Autumn 2022.

Earlier today, the Public Administration Minister, Maras Dukaj, said that “the public has been informed that the councillors of the Savnik Municipal Assembly, whose mandate expired three years ago, are about to make important decisions tomorrow”. He urged the councillors to make decisions in line with the principles of democratic responsibility and to refrain from granting themselves more rights than guaranteed by the Constitution.

The Parliament Speaker, Andrija Mandic, says he believes “it’s last minute that the Government of Montenegro convenes an online session and urgently introduces forced administration in both Savnik and Kotor”.

According to him, it’s hypocritical of the responsible minister to transfer the matter to the parliament speaker or prime minister.
