The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has made a decision to postpone the party’s Congress scheduled for 29 November, having in mind the latest epidemiological measures and the overall coronavirus situation in the country.

They told CdM that the Congress Organizing Committee passed this decision, and this body will be making decisions referring to the new date in line with the current epidemiological situation.

“At the level of municipal bodies and special forms of organization, the SDP has completed the necessary procedure of proposing candidates for the party’s collective bodies, thus already successfully completing a significant part of pre-congress activities. New bodies of the SDP, that is, the new party’s management, will be elected at the 10th Congress, which means that we’ll have staff for significant challenges that lie ahead,” the SDP explained for CdM.

Ahead of the 10th Congress, the SDP plans to adopt a strategic political document on further opposition activities of this party, under significantly different circumstances at Montenegro’s political stage as a consequence of active meddling of certain actors outside Montenegro and open interference of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

“We’re facing a new political reality dominated by messages that are completely unacceptable from the aspect of the fundamental constitutional values of a civil and secular state,” they noted.

The latest trends, according to the SDP, threaten to ruin the achieved values of a civic society that are written in its Constitution, whose preparation we greatly contributed to.
