Montenegro must strive for green energy, but not at the expense of energy independence, Dragica Sekulic believes.
Former Director General of the Directorate for Energy Efficiency and Minister of Economy, and today DPS MP, points out for the Gradski (City) portal that the energy situation in Europe has changed significantly since the beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, but that some priorities will not change.
“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has fully highlighted the importance of energy independence of the European Union and candidate countries. There is no sovereign politics without true energy independence. The EU has known this for a long time, and today it is starting to insist on it even more clearly”, Sekulic points out.
Some European countries are considering the possibility of compensating for the lack of energy with more work or even restarting the operation of thermal power plants. However, Sekulic points out that this does not mean giving up environmentally friendly energy production.
