The letter sent by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports that the teachers’ councils should nominate acting principals until new ones are elected, has already sparked tensions in educational institutions.
According to the information of Dnevne Novine daily, teachers are now supposed to take responsibility and nominate acting principals even though the existing ones are in the midst of their mandates. Moreover, it’s not their legal responsibility to do it, as it’s up to Minister Bratic to decide on nominations.
President of the Teachers’ Association in Social Studies, Ms Stanka Vukcevic, suggests this request to be postponed until September, because it’s impossible to be implemented during summer holidays.
Acting principals, she says, are being appointed by the minister in special situations – when a principal is dismissed and another person should be appointed, in cases when no adequate candidates applied for a vacancy, or in similar extraordinary circumstances.
She hopes the ministry will withdraw the letters and give up on the request to get proposals for acting principals. Or at least postpone it until September.
