Server: Pro-European opposition in Montenegro will prevent Moscow from intervening

Daniel Server

Once Montenegro gets pro-European and pro-NATO opposition, there will be no space for Russia and relations between Montenegro and Russia will improve, says Daniel Serwer, Balkan expert at the American University John Hopkins. However, the Kremlin still poses danger.

“Russia is still supporting anti-constitutional, anti-NATO political forces in Montenegro. Things will get better once pro-European and pro-NATO opposition appears. Putin’s hopes of the destabilization of Montenegro must be destroyed. That would improve relations between Montenegro and Russia”, says Sewer.

He’s not very optimistic when it comes to the relations between the USA and the Union.

“Relations are bad because of the american tariffs and because Trump’s animosity towards the EU. Brussels will have to be patient until Americans find way to bring themselves to their senses”, says Serwer.
