The Law on Registered or Civil Partnership, which is in its drafting phase and deals with same-sex marriages, won’t require amendments to the Constitution. The working group will also try to avoid amendments to other regulations, according to assistant minister for human and minority rights, Blanka Radošević-Marović.

She has been a member of the working group established at the beginning of this year, consisting of 17 members. The working group includes representatives of the ministries, NGOs, Parliament’s committee for human rights, defendant of human rights and freedoms and international organizations. Strategic documents and negotiating chapters for joining the EU require this law to be adopted by the end of 2018, says Radošević-Marović.

“We had our first meeting in February and we have been preparing the another one. We will have constructive dialogue for sure,” emphasized Radošević-Marović.

This Law should encompass all rights related to same-sex marriages in order to avoid the need for additional amendments to other regulations. If they manage to do so, the law shall be applicable immediately after its adoption.
