Sign petition: Montenegro under millions of plastic bags

NGO Zero Waste Montenegro has launched a national petition requiring the competent authorities and the Government of Montenegro to ban the use of plastic bags in Montenegro as of 2018.

As the NGO explained, the collected signatures will be sent together with an open letter to the minister of sustainable development and tourism. With the support of other non-governmental organisations, Zero Waste Montenegro will require the government to observe a number of positive examples of countries that have already prohibited the use of plastic bags when deciding on this issue.

“Single-use plastic bags are used only for a few minutes and then thrown away. Each citizen of Montenegro use in average 600 single-use plastic bags per year and none is recycled in Montenegro: in the best case, if they do not end up in nature, they are piled up in landfills. Those bags can last for hundreds of years in the nature. Even biodegradable bags survive long enough in nature to harm wildlife and spoil the beauty of our country. Join the movement and demand our government to ban single-use plastic bags in Montenegro,” the petition initiator wrote.
