Šimunić: “Green” and “blue” Montenegro should be united

Prokletije

In the context of climate changes and as the most important natural resource, water issues – water scarcity and the need for its preservation – have become one of the most significant worldwide. Considering the usage of water on the global level, intensive agricultural production represents serious danger.

According to Ivan Šimunić of the University in Zagreb, Montenegro should apply provisions of the Water Directive within the already-opened Chapter 27. In an interview with Pobjeda daily, he told water in Montenegro should be protected, organic agricultural production should be promoted and everything should be linked with tourism so that “green” and “blue” Montenegro are united.

“Montenegro has been pretty much diverse in geographical terms, it has “virgin” natural resources, land, water and forests. I reckon you should unite the agricultural production and put those products in the market. Therefore, you should connect “green” and “blue” Montenegro. Maybe that’s much more easier to write down than to implement,” said Šimunić.

In this context, Montenegro’s legislation should be aligned with the EU legislative framework, according to him.
