There is a new twist in Kotor. After months of agony, the Kotor SNP committee decided to offer the rest of the opposition its support to establish a minority local government, the party said in a statement.
“In accordance with the models established at the session of the Kotor SNP committee on 27 November 2016, the committee decided to offer minority support to the Democratic Montenegro, the Democratic Front (DF), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and URA Civic Movement to form local government in Kotor. Our offer comes after these parties previously publicly offered their minority support to SNP, but changed their mind when SNP formally requested the same thing. We note that they did not announce that in an official and politically decent way, but prolonged the formation of a new government in the municipality of Kotor by political games, unsuitable for those who want to create a partnership,” SNP stated.
The party points out that it offers minority support despite all this.
“This implies SNP’s minority support to these parties for the entire executive power in Kotor, with our control functions in the municipal assembly and boards of directors. We have made this move despite numerous incorrect and insulting statements against SNP previously coming from representatives of these parties. The top priority for us, as a serious and responsible political entity, is forming new local government in Kotor,” the party added.
At the local elections on 16 October, the opposition won 17 of the 33 councillor seats, whereas DPS, SD, LP and HGI won a total of 16 seats.
DPS won 12 seats, the Democrats 5, DF 5, SDP 3, SNP 3, SD 2, URA 1, LP 1 and HGI 1.
